Stephen and I (Lynne) have completed many trails with our buddies Corinne and Ken but the Alps 2 Ocean trail was one of our most memorable. Being flown in by helicopter to the start under Aoraki/Mt Cook was exhilarating. When the helicopter left we felt completely alone. The adventure ahead challenged us to ride over shingle tracks and river beds. The first night at Braemar Station provided us with remarkable views with mirrored reflections and outstanding star gazing. The trail provided constant stunning views with blue water, clear snowy mountains, native bush and incredible sunsets. The 13 km climb from Ohau Lodge to Tarnbrae HIgh Point was challenging but the view was amazing. Biking down the other side provided the best surprise with a coffee cart at the wool shed. We also biked a few extra kms to the outstanding Clay Cliffs - a worthwhile trip. The final hill is tough especially when e bikers zoomed past but the joy of the finish line in Oamaru 300 kms later is magic!
