Twin Coast Cycle Transport & Bike Hire offer flexible trail services from our office in Opua Marina – the cycle trail’s Bay of Islands start point. We can transport you, bikes and luggage, to/from any accessible point on the trail.
The Twin Coast Cycle Trail is one of the Far North’s newest and most exciting attractions. Running from Opua in the east to Horeke and Mangungu in the west it covers 87km of stunning rural scenery and fascinating Māori and pioneer history.
Your journey starts in Opua, near the resort town of Paihia, and takes in a lovely mix of interesting Northland towns and attractions, including:
Kawakawa – known as the ‘railway town’ for its famous train line running down the middle of the main street. It’s also home to the world famous Hundertwasser Toilets, and a smashing local art gallery.
From Kawakawa riders pass through pine forests and farms, and over the beautiful suspension bridge at Tuhipa, to reach Kaikohe. This pleasant town is a handy place to stop with accommodation, places to eat, and the Waiariki Hot Pools nearby.
From there, it’s onward to Okaihau via the shores of Lake Omapere, Northland’s longest lake and an area important to local Māori.
The final section of the trail from Okaihau to Horeke, on the Hokianga Harbour, takes cyclists through the Utakura River valley, arguably the most scenic part of the whole trail.
We pride ourselves on offering a flexible shuttle and hire service, and look forward to transporting you, your bikes and your luggage along the trail. We'll also share our local knowledge so you can get the most out of your Pou Herenga Tai Twin Coast Cycle Trail adventure.
We have a wide range of quality mountain bikes and e-bikes to suit all ages.
