At the northern trailhead of The Old Ghost Road lies a special wilderness accommodation and café experience. Our relaxed, friendly hosts offer a deeply comfortable place to stay, with hearty meals and an excellent range of local beer and wine.

Characterful Accommodation

Enjoy the relaxation you deserve before or after your Old Ghost Road experience at the Rough and Tumble Bush Lodge – nestled amongst native bush with many features crafted by hand. Our five guest suites – each named after a Mokihinui River gold mine from the 1870s – boast ensuite bathrooms and sweeping views of the Glasgow Range.

Each suite accommodates up to four people, with beds both downstairs and upstairs on a mezzanine floor. Hearty two-course meals are available in the atmospheric, cafe and lounge at the heart of our lodge (advance bookings essential), where continental breakfasts (included in rates) or optional cooked breakfasts are also served.

Café & Outdoor Bush Shower

What better way to end your Old Ghost Road adventure than with delicious food and drink, and a hot, al fresco shower right on the river's edge?  Our café and bush shower are open lodge guests and the general public during the high season (October to April; 10am–5pm). Indulge in homemade pizzas, nachos, and fresh baking, served alongside a great range of West Coast Brewery craft beers, wines, cider and a selection of spirits – the perfect tonic whether you're a tired cyclist or simply a traveller looking for a back-to-nature boost.
